LHS Patriots Statesman

• Students must take Journalism as a pre-requisite to be on the
Statesman, the must maintain an above-average grade and not miss
deadlines. Statesman requires deadlines to be met and good
communication skills to ensure they are working with the rest of the
Statesman staff. Journalism is offered in both Fall and Spring
Semesters.
• The Statesman attends state and national conventions to stay up to
date with journalism trends. We have attended the NSPA Journalism
conventions in Boston, Chicago, DC an St. Louis and will be attending
the CSPA Journalism Conference in NYC this spring.
• The Statesman has been a long-standing tradition at LHS, starting in
1965 when the school started. Student journalists publish a print issue
once a month and daily on our website, LHSStatesman.com Students
learn valuable skills in writing, editing, design, photography, and group
work. The Statesman has won several state and national awards,
including Superior Newspaper in the last 11 years and two Crown
Awards from Columbia Scholastic Press Association in the last 5 years.
LHS students are always pumped to receive the Statesman each
month in their WIN and AD rooms!
